Our February drill, as has become longstanding tradition, will be an AHA CPR Refresher Course. The drill will be held on February 7, 2018, and will start at 1900.

This will be the new AHA BLS CPR Refresher Course. In order to take it you will need to have a current AHA BLS CPR card. The refresher course lasts about 2 1/2 hours.

Nick Low-Beer will be teaching the course with me. Because, the AHA limits instructor to student ratio to no more than 8:1 and manikin to student ration to 3:1, we will only be able to accommodate 12 students (16 if
we can find additional manikins to use). As a result of this we will need to know who will be attending so that we can plan accordingly. If we need to run additional classes because of more students than we can accommodate on February 7th or because some
squad members are unavailable.we will schedule one or two additional classes. We will also schedule a full AHA BLS CPR Course for people interested in joining the squad on February 9th at 1800. This class runs about 5 hours. If you have a current CPR card,
but have not taken a class since the 2015 changes, you may be interested in this course instead of the refresher.

If you have a current CPR card that expires before February 2019, you may want to take this refresher course to get on the same schedule as the squad. Also, consider that effective January 1, 2019, all AHA CPR training
will be required to be taught with a manikin with a feedback device. If you want to avoid the first year of this change, you can renew now and have a card until February 2020.

If you do not wish to renew your card, you can arrive for the drill on February 7th, sign in, and stay for a short period (the EMSCNJ guidelines mandate annual practice of CPR skills and renewal of you BLS CPR card every
two years). You will not be required to stay for the full refresher, but you will get LOSAP credit for it.. If you prefer to be excused from the drill entirely, let me know and I will excuse you. I you do so, you will not get LOSAP points for the drill
and no CEU's for the drill, but you will not have your voting rights impacted. The refresher course is good for 2 elective CEU's for EMT recertification and hence 1 point for LOSAP. The full course carries no CEU's as it is a prerequisite for becoming an
EMT.

AHA requires that all students have access to the provider manual, before, during and after the course. The AHA also allows EMS agencies to maintain a library of copies rather than buy a copy for each course. If you
do not have a copy from a previous CPR course taken since 2015 and want to review a copy prior to, during, or after the course, let me know and I will make arrangements to get a copy to you.

If you attend any squad CPR training in February, you will be given credit for attending the February drill.

In order for this to function smoothly, I will need all squad members to respond to me (via email at first_aider@msn.com) and let me know: 1. If you will be attending the drill on February 7th in order to obtain a
refresher card. 2. If you will be attending the full course on February 9th instead. 3. If you will not be attending either, but want to refresh your CPR card, please provide me with a description of your availability for an alternate date.
