The missions of the Kendall Park First Aid & Rescue Squad have always been to (1) rescue and render first aid to victims of sudden illness or accident, (2) to provide ambulance service, and (3) to promote safety in all its branches. The first two of these are the primary goals of our existence. We must be there for our residents whenever their need for our emergency services arise. This means reliably staffing our ambulances. Currently, we are failing in our mission. Many of our shifts are going unfilled and people are forced to wait for a mutual aid agency to respond. When we do fill our shifts there are only a few of our members that actually volunteer to do so.
1. Tentative schedules will be available online via Plan-It EMS by the 15th of the month prior to the month covered by the schedule. Those schedules will be based on the prior month’s schedule and any input from the members as to their availability. Those that are currently scheduled in a slot will have first priority for their chosen time slot, should a conflict arise.
2. Members are responsible for periodically checking Plan-It EMS and keeping track of their shifts. This includes between the 15th and 23rd day of the month.
2. Any changes or requests for the schedule must be emailed to the Chief and Deputy Chief by the 23rd of the month prior to the month covered by the schedule. After that date, the schedule will be final and any person who needs to get off a particular shift will be responsible to find their own coverage for that shift. It will be the responsibility of the squad member not the line officers to make sure that all scheduled shifts are covered.
3. After the 23rd, the line officers will contact individuals to endeavor to fill any blanks in the schedule.
4. All changes in coverage shall reported via email to the Chief and Deputy Chief so that the schedule actually reflects those that are running. This is being done so LOSAP points for shifts can be accurately recorded. Those that fail to report changes to the schedule run the risk of not receiving credit for their shifts on LOSAP.
5. Ideally, crews will consist of at least 3 members, including a crew chief and a driver. Four member crews may be assigned to enhance training. Minimum crews must consist of a crew chief and a driver in order to respond.
6. All active members must be scheduled for a minimum of 24 hours each month on the schedule. Those members who consistently do not meet this minimum will be contacted by a line officer and may be subject to being classified as an inactive member and subsequently removal from the squad. Members are encouraged to provide more hours if they can do so.
7. It is recognized that not everyone can provide a schedule one-half month in advance. However, members must provide their availability as soon as they can based on openings on the schedule. The 24 hour minimum applies to everyone and will include all shifts you run, including shifts you trade for.
8. If a true emergency prevents you from running on an assigned shift, you must report the problem to a line officer by phone (not email or text message) to attempt to resolve the issue.
The February schedule is currently posted on Plan-It EMS. There are many open shifts that need to be filled. If you are not scheduled for 24 hours this month please pick-up some of the open shifts. Even if you are scheduled for more than 24 hours this month, please consider picking up a shift if you can.
It is my understanding that all members have access to Plan-It EMS. You can access it with a PC via their website or with a smart phone via their app. If you do not have access, please contact the Chief or Deputy Chief to obtain a username and temporary password. You are responsible for keeping track or your shifts.
