During this past Wednesday's business meeting, Rob and I were out on a call.

I had asked Asst. Chief Vallury to bring it up the purchase of the Binder Lift system (which we have had on loan) at the meeting, which he did, but not during the new business part of the meeting for a vote.

I have spoken to President Baylis and rather than hold a special business meeting via Zoom to vote on the purchase of the Binder Lift, we will ask those present at the meeting to vote via email.

We had requested and received a 30 day free trial of the device. This turned into a 60 day trial, because of the pandemic and because we could not run a drill on the item. It is better to vote now, rather then wait and incur the cost of shipping the unit back and forth.

I have had 3 occasions to use it and found it very useful and would recommend buying it.

It is basically works like a KED with a lot of extra handles. and is easier to apply to a patient then a KED. It does not make the patient lighter, but does make securing a good grip and lifting position on the patient much easier. It reduces direct contact with the patient and alleviates having to find a manner in which to grip the patient that does not cause pain to the patient (such as a patient with a bad shoulder that you cannot , therefore, grab under an arm). It is also easy to clean.

Given that our patients are not getting lighter and we often have a 2 man crews. This item would make lifting non-bariatric patients easier for 2 people and would be a worthwhile investment.

The unit has both a standard and bariatric patient model. The larger device fits very large patients and gives you the handles for a crew with fire dept. assistance.

The cost of the unit with both devices is $1,622.00.

If you have not had a chance to use the device, please take a look at it. It is in the driver side rear compartment of A-63.

The question to vote on is approval to spend $1,622.00 on the purchase of the Binder Lift. Please vote Yes or No or Abstain. Please email your vote by responding to this email with a copy to to Brian Baylis ( baylis4 at verizon.net ) . Please respond no later than 12 noon on Thursday, May 28.

Thanks.

(We are also looking into purchasing the Camelback device which is basically an inflatable that goes under the patient and inflates into a chair. The device helps get the patient into a sitting position if he can stand from there, but does not place the patient in a standing position so they can be swiveled onto a stretcher. It also takes a lot longer to use, but would help for bariatric patients when no additional lifting assistance is available. However the unit costs over $3,200.00.)
