Gold Cross Magazine is a quarterly publication of the EMS Council of New Jersey. The EMS Council of New Jersey (formerly the N.J. State First Aid Council) is an organization that represents volunteer EMS agencies in the State of New Jersey. Our squad is a member of the Council and is part of the 14th District (Middlesex County) of the Council. There are about 300 volunteer squads in the State that are members of the Council (a volunteer squad is one that does not bill for its services).
New Jersey is unique in that volunteer squads are not subject to the burden of regulations that licensed agencies are. The Council establishes the guidelines under which non-licensed agencies operate.
Gold Cross Magazine contains a variety of articles about EMS, including an article in each issue that allows you to obtain 1.5 CEU's towards your EMT recertification, just by reading the article and answering some multiple-choice questions on an included postcard and mailing it to the Council. Those that score at least 70% correct will get the CEU's awarded.
In addition to articles it contains news about EMS in New Jersey, news about the volunteer squads in the State, information about upcoming events including the annual symposium conducted by the Council, business news about the Council, updates as to what is going on in Trenton as it pertains to EMS, and more.
In the past, the squad has purchased a subscription for each member, then about 4 years ago Pat Leonard, who owned his own publishing company and was a long-time member of the Council retired. The first publisher who took over did a terrible job and we stopped subscribing. A new publisher has taken over and is doing a good job.
We will once again provide subscriptions to squad members, without cost to the member; however, since there is no longer a discount for having all active members subscribed and the cost is now $16.00 per subscription per year, we will only provide it to members who are interested in receiving it.
Please let me know if you would like to receive the magazine. Also, since not everyone receives these emails, let me know if you do not want to receive it. This way I can track down the members to make sure they are given the opportunity to receive the magazine or decline it.
Thanks.
