Good Morning All!
As you may be aware, we are inundated with applications from new members
and few of them have been waiting for more than a month to get a shift.
As a Volunteer Squad though it is a good problem to have, we are changing
our strategy with schedules.
Few things to note:
- If you pick a particular shift, we expect you to be consistent with
your availability for your shift. If your shift starts at 1800 you show up
at 1830 or 1900 it is not serving the purpose. We do understand that
sometimes we get stuck in traffic and school etc., Please plan accordingly
and see if we can start shift on time.
- We see members calling out every other week or some 3,4,5 weeks
straight. This is not acceptable. It is inconvenient for people managing
schedules and for those picking shifts. We do understand vacations, health
issues etc., we are very considerate and we are not questioning at all. But
there are few members who are consistently inconsistent with their
schedules. Going forward, we would be assigning your shift to other
members in waiting if you are out frequently. We should all be fair to the
ones waiting for shifts.
Here is how we will be scheduling by order of priority:
- Crew Chief and approved drivers
- Certified EMTs running full 12 hour shift
- Certified EMT running 6 hour shift
- Members in EMT School
- Non-EMT running full 12 hour shift
- Non-EMT running 6 hour shift
While we do understand that this is a Volunteer based organization and
whether Volunteer or paid without discipline squads disappear. I really
want to be fair to all. Neither myself nor Brian Baylis or anyone in the
squad can't take it for granted if we continue to provide consistent
services to the residents.
We wouldn't be discussing this if we didn't have several members waiting
for shifts. This is nothing personal and I am not pointing at any
particular member(s). As I mentioned earlier, if you are in the Monmouth
Junction First Aid Squad area, and if you don't mind riding with MJFAS
please let me know. We are looking to have combined crews so that both
squads in the township are equally strong.
Thanks for your understanding and continued commitment.
