In recognition of EMS Safety Day, I have attached a notice from ems.gov<http://www.ems.gov/>. the national clearinghouse for EMS information operated by the National Office of EMS with the National Highway Traffic Saffety Administration in the U.S. Dept. of Transportation. The notice encourages you to take the Traffic Incident Managment (TIM) course. The course provides valuable information and insight on safely managing an incident on the highway. It is available in a number of formats. You can take the online course offered by the NHTSA by following the link below. I believe you will receive 4 elective CEU's through CAPCE that will count toward renewal of your NREMT certification but will not be counted towards your NJ EMT renewal. Alternatively, there are many courses offered in the State of New Jersey by the N.J. Traffic Incident Management organization (operated jointly by the NJ Dept. of Transportation and the NJ State Police). For a list of available courses go to NJTIM.org<http://www.njtim.org/>. Many, but not all of these classes give elective CEU's through NJOEMS, check with the instructor to determine if he has applied to the NJOEMS for CEU's. Finally, I am trying to put together a TIM class in our township for late summer or early fall of this year for all of our township first responders, I will keep you posted.

Also, please join us tomorrow, Wednesday, May 22nd, at our delayed monthly business meeting at 7 pm. We will have a small celebration in honor of National EMS Week.

Subject: Prioritize Highway Scene Safety to Protect EMS Clinicians

Increasing on-scene safety for traffic incident response
[EMS News]<https://rw2yhkq5.r.us-west-2.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fwww.ems.gov%2F/1/0101018f9b3ff8da-35177e2f-c64b-4dc0-8c76-87b0ad7c3fc4-000000/ppK6L4f-s7SCno_PCfhjUuAet5s=375>
Making Highway Safety a Priority Don’t Forget Your Traffic Incident Management Training

We depend on you, our nation’s EMS clinicians to provide prehospital care in our homes, schools, businesses and on our roadways. With more than 1.5 million EMS responses to roadway crashes in 2022, traffic incident management (TIM) is imperative to increase the safety of our patients and EMS clinicians alike.

Tuesday marks EMS Safety Day and raising awareness of on-scene safety for TIM is a top priority of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Effective TIM reduces the duration and the impact of traffic incidents. It also improves the safety of motorists, crash victims and emergency responders; and it reduces the frequency of secondary crashes.

If you haven’t signed up for TIM training, please take a moment to register. Learning more about protecting yourself and your fellow EMS clinicians is a great way to commemorate EMS Week. This free National Highway Institute (NHI) online course provided by FHWA covers basic-level traffic incident response. You’ll receive 4 CEUs from NHI, but more importantly you could help save the life of a colleague or your own.
