Attached are Penn Medicine -Princeton’s new guidance for EMS. Please review them.

We are changing our protocols to require surgical masks at all times when with a patient, regardless of the patient’s complaints. No exceptions. With a patient who shows any symptoms of CoVid19, a mask is required an N95 mask is preferred, but a surgical mask may be used. A mask should be placed on the patient ASAP.

Please note the number for the ED and call prior to leaving the scene.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Subject: Message to EMS from Penn Medicine Princeton Health—03/22/2020

To help protect you, our staff, and our shared patients, Princeton Medical Center has implemented new protocols for EMS crews bringing patients to the Emergency Department (ED).
Effective immediately, ALL patients and EMS providers entering the ED must be wearing a surgical mask.

Registration will be handled in the vestibule of the ED ambulance entrance. EMS providers will apply ID bands to their patients. Hospital staff will no longer do this.

The previous protocol announced for patients possibly infected with COVID-19 remains in effect. You must call ahead to 609.853.9726 so we can prepare an appropriate room.

When caring for a patient who may be infected with COVID-19, EMS providers should follow current CDC guidance on personal protective equipment by donning gown, gloves, eye protection, and a face mask before engaging the patient. The CDC has advised that surgical masks are acceptable. During aerosol-generating procedures involving a patient who may be infected with COVID-19, healthcare providers should wear N95 respirators.
