Attached is an email forwarded from Middlesex County OEM on behalf of Meridian Health Systems.

Meridian Health Systems (MHS) are requesting that we not transport anyone other than the patient to their hospitals (the closest being JFK in Edison).  Exceptions would be for pediatrics, labor and delivery, and end of life matters.

If you have a patient going to an MHS hospital, discourage family, friends, etc., from going with the patient.  Advise them they will undergo extensive screening and may not be allowed to stay with the patient.  Additionally, we will not wait for them and we will not transport them home.  If they still insist we will transport them at their own risk.  If a family member wants to drive on their own, that is up to them, but warn them of the policy.  Encourage them to keep in touch with the patient via cell phone.  And encourage patient to bring a cell phone and charger.

While this currently applies only to MHS, I would not be surprised if other hospitals adopt the same policy in the near future.

This policy is for patients who are not under investigation and do not exhibit signs of CoVid-19.  For patients who are under investigation or exhibit the signs of CoVid-19, there will be NO passengers on the ambulance. The only exception is a single parent or guardian of a minor.  In that case the individual will be secure in the patient compartment and must be fitted with an n95 mask at a minimum.
